I wanted to get one even before I met Ely of Ruth. After doing the ALC I knew that I wanted something accessible <i>while </i>riding. I thought about the logistics of getting a rando bag. I'd have to get a front rack like a Nitto M-12 and I also figured my headtube is too short and stem too low to accommodate a regular sized rando bag.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: inherit;">Then I saw the RuthWorks Brevet bags and thought they were not only the perfect size but I could just put it on without any need to get additional racks. I told Ely "<span style="color: #3e454c; line-height: 15.359999656677246px; white-space: pre-wrap;">I am mainly looking for something to hold a light windbreaker, some cliff bars, phone, keys and the map window for the cue sheets." Here's what he came up with for me.</span></span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: inherit;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="331" mozallowfullscreen="" msallowfullscreen="" oallowfullscreen="" src="https://www.flickr.com/photos/30037367@N03/13974266353/player/" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="500"></iframe></span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: inherit;">And for Lan.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="331" mozallowfullscreen="" msallowfullscreen="" oallowfullscreen="" src="https://www.flickr.com/photos/30037367@N03/13951768332/in/photostream/player/" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="500"></iframe></span><br />
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white;">I'll post again once we mount them. Also after the long rides we are doing this weekend.</span>OwlBoogiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05748302498132631764noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4913332032737145501.post-63220330419555469182013-07-29T14:34:00.001-07:002013-07-29T14:36:08.576-07:00Haro Master repaint 2013<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/owlboogie/9267758672/" title="Envisioning by OwlBoogie, on Flickr"><img alt="Envisioning" height="500" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2873/9267758672_6a25dfbdf1.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
Right now I'm in the process of getting a fresh look to my 1987 Master. In 2006, I started a cleanup of the bike. I kept in sunfaded survivor mode. Mainly, removing all the surface rust.
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/owlboogie/2450440102/" title="Rusty Bars (sounds like a porn star) by OwlBoogie, on Flickr"><img alt="Rusty Bars (sounds like a porn star)" height="375" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2320/2450440102_da417fcb3f.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
I debated whether or not to repaint it to the original red paint one day, but getting it cleaned and ridable was the main thing at that time. Here are pics of that process. <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/owlboogie/sets/72157604780183882" target="_blank">http://www.flickr.com/photos/owlboogie/sets/72157604780183882</a><br />
<br />

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/owlboogie/2523240858/" title="Haro on Haight by OwlBoogie, on Flickr"><img alt="Haro on Haight" height="375" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3126/2523240858_09fe2847ba.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
So here we are in 2013, the bike is once again going through metamorphosis. I always liked the 1988 Haro team bikes. I distinctly remember some of them riding black models. It's kinda like then a pro sports team makes a black variant of their team jerseys. Liking the black scheme and knowing it'll be easier for <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz/west-coast-powder-coating-south-san-francisco" target="_blank">West Coast Powder Coating</a> to do, I decided to go to the dark side.
Here are some progress pics.<br />

From my friend Chris:
"5/12 @ 20:45, in the Metreon Parking Garage my bike was stolen. Fuji Roubaix ACR 3.0. Gray with red and black trimmings. Reflective spokes, Shimano 105 pedals, and a monkey electric light on the rear wheel.
The saddle has a Viva Los Vegas ribbon tied onto the rails. And a zynga sticker on the seat post.
Sentimental over anything this bike meant so much to me and Mayumi."

I've been riding the Soma a lot lately. I finally decided to swap out the road drops for some mustache bars. I considered getting the Nitto RM-16 (same as my XO). But decided on the Soma 3-Speed Mustache Bars to keep it all brand match-ey. This was mainly to alleviate the problem of hitting my knees on the shifters as I climb.
<br><br>
The Soma model has longer flat sections and is a bit narrower than the Nitto.

<br><br>
Here's what it looks like now.

<br><br>
And as far climbing goes, I don't have the accidental shift problem anymore.

I met John, who is the original owner of this XO-1. He was there to fix a flat tire. John originally owned a purple 1992 XO-1, but within 3 day of owning it, it was run over by a car. The Bridgestone rep was kind enought to send him a 1993 frame as a replacement.<br /><br />John also went on to say that his bike was actually stolen and recovered recently. Truly a bike with many stories.</p>OwlBoogiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05748302498132631764noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4913332032737145501.post-8517671974976491132012-05-25T10:49:00.001-07:002012-05-25T10:49:55.433-07:00Front basketed<div style="text-align: left; padding: 3px;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/owlboogie/7268498072/" title="photo sharing"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8025/7268498072_231e8f1256.jpg" style="border: solid 2px #000000;" alt="" /></a><br /><span style="font-size: 0.8em; margin-top: 0px;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/owlboogie/7268498072/">Front basketed</a>, originally uploaded by <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/owlboogie/">OwlBoogie</a>.</span></div><p>Trying the basket on the front. Finally! I was looking for some SKS plastic ones in 20. No dice. I then got some Wald mid-weight metal fenders. Those wouldn't fit. At that point I tried Wald shorties front and back. I really did't like them too well. Too floppy. <a href="http://wheelright.blogspot.com/">Ramona Wheelright</a> suggested I try ebay for some old school Schwinn fenders. I found some late 50s/early 60s fenders. McCauley fenders. Clicked buy-it-now and they were on Bubo by Monday night.
